Fort Mill's development moratorium has ended

Fort Mill's six-month pause on new residential rezonings, annexations and preliminary plats expired at midnight on Oct. 1, 2026. The town's population grew about 57% from 2020 to 2025 (roughly 14,000 new residents), and some residents want the pause back until infrastructure catches up. No extension is planned.
